7 Exciting Trips
What does it mean, going on a trip?
"If we ask a hundred people what the term travel means to them, I'm sure we'll get a hundred different answers." says Yannis Kotileas, founder of WayOut Adventures.
Books, literary works, articles, and philosophical texts have devoted pages and pages trying to break down this, so open to broad interpretation, term.
For me, travelling has always been a priority in my life. It’s a way to escape from the routine of everyday life, a way to discover both the world and myself and to get close to nature by collecting unique experiences. However, as I grew older, I began to search for a spark that would make each of my journeys unique. Exploring the world and nature was not enough. I wanted more, a touch of adrenaline. Adventure Travel, that was what it came down to.
You get to know the world and develop a sport at the same time.
And that's how WayOut Adventures was born, to bring this idea together and create a complete experience. This idea, although pioneering for Greece, soon found enthusiastic fellow travelers and a dynamic adventure-travel community was created. Trips to ski and surf in the most magical places of the world, that was to our mission.
So we started timidly with Morocco
Our first trip, which was also the first commercial surf trip in the Greek market, had a huge response. In 8 days along with 32 unique participants we surfed and improved our skills, got to know the local culture and got lost in the Moroccan colors, walked through the African bazaars and became one with the locals, relaxed and took in images that we will carry with us for a lifetime.
The famous Bali
Next up, the following year, we decided to visit one of the top surfing destinations in the world, the famous Bali. With a group of 38 participants we surfed world class waves, quenched our thirst with exotic coconuts and drank Arak while sitting on the floor with the lovely Balinese. We stayed up at night and had fun at the most beautiful beach bars of the island and enjoyed sunsets that will be forever etched in our memory.
Next exotic destination, Senegal
We got to know the place and mingled with its special culture. We danced to African rhythms and made new friends. We familiarize ourselves with the waves of the Atlantic Ocean and tried new flavors. We photographed places, people and moments in their finest form.
After the warm waters of Senegal, we fly to the frozen mountains of distant Japan
Hakuba gave us endless powdered rides, Tokyo, the "bright" capital of technology, enchanted us with its contrasts. The people won our hearts with their warm smile and their genuine kindness. The culture and the special life philosophy of the place captivated us.
And on we are to Norway
In 10 days we skied the most imposing slopes of Tromsø. We looked down from the Norwegian fjords and were impressed by their natural beauty. We drove sleds with huskies and drank Norwegian whiskey in traditional pubs.
For 2020, we had planned two unique trips to two very special destinations.
BC Canada | Ski Road Trip
The trip sold out two weeks after it was announced. We had 11 days to live the caravan life experience and ski in 5 of the greatest ski resorts in British Columbia. Whistler – Sun Peaks – Revelstoke – Kicking Horse – Lake Louise.
Because, after all, that was where the idea for WayOut Adventures came to be in my head. Inside a tent somewhere in the Rocky Mountains during my studies at Thompson Rivers University's Adventure Management Department.
Five years after coming home and creating WayOut Adventures I would return to familiar places, this time with 16 other friends and participants.
Azores | Surf Trip
For this trip, we chose an unknown, to many, destination. Still unspoiled, a place with beaches sculpted by volcanic lava, an inland of incredible natural beauty and world class waves, the Azores promise a magical experience.
Our purpose is to create experiences that will stay with us forever, as the most intense and sweet memories. We raise the bar high, making our dreams come true and transforming reality into a dream.
