Oceanman Dubai Final
The Oceanman 2018 Grand Final has come to an end. The Greek delegation returned to our country with many successes and medals in their luggage.

The Final of the world open water swimming competition series - Open Water Swimming - Oceanman Dubai 2018 took place in the exotic and cosmopolitan emirate of Dubai. More than 15 sportsmen and women from our country who had qualified in the competition held last July in idyllic Oitylo bay participated.
The Greek swimmers who traveled to the emirate, with the valuable help of WayOut Adventures, excelled among over 1300 entries from 42 countries around the world.
The most important success was the 3rd place of Katerina Gioni in the 10km event in the Elite category and Christos Koromilas who was ranked 1st in the inspiration category. Mr. Koromilas, suffering from vision loss and accompanied by Giorgos Goundas, made an touching effort. Also, athlete Marinopoulou Georgia ranked 5th in the Elite Oceanwoman category, and Nikos Simantiras ranked 6th in the corresponding Elite men's category.
The rest of the Greek swimmers who participated in the event in the Age group categories also achieved success. Specifically, in the 5K Half-Oceanman distance, Athanasoulakis Anastasios was 3rd in the Junior 14–19-year-old category and fourth overall. Niki Sklavounou was 4th in the Junior 14–19-year-old category and Athena Michalopoulou was 5th in the same category. Finally, swimmer Ioanna Velmachou was ranked 3rd in the master 40-49-year-old category.
For the record, the fastest Oceanman for 2018 was the Mexican Fernando Augusto Betanzos achieving 02:03:46 time, and second behind him was the Hungarian Daniel Szekelyi achieving 02:03:52 time, while 3rd was Frenchman Bertrand Venturi achieving 02:03:55 time. In the women category, Angela Maurer, from Germany, once again emerged as OceanWoman with 02:08:36 time, followed by Italian Lara Gherardini second with a time of 02:24:33 and our very own Katerina Gionis third with a time of 02:26:36.
After the race was concluded, Oceanman announced the schedule of the competition for the 2018-2019 season and of course Greece was a part of it. The next season, 2018-2019, will be boosted as more countries have been added to the competition.
The 2018-2019 Oceanman season will include the following countries; Italy - Russia - Mexico - Greece - Cyprus - Ukraine - France - Switzerland - Dubai - Malaysia - Netherlands - Turkey - Switzerland - Brazil - Argentina - Spain - Thailand and several other. It is expected with great interest as more than 20.000 swimmers from all over the world will participate.

We renew our appointment, for next summer to once again offer Greek swimmers the opportunity to claim their qualification in the next world championship held in 2019.
