Overview
The CEO & Founder of WayOut Adventures, Yiannis Kotileas, has always had a special love for skiing. In 2008, he was at the final of the Freeride World Tour in Verbier, where he started envisioning such events taking place in the Greek mountains.
This experience was one of the reasons he decided to create the WayOut Group, a group of companies specializing in mountain and sea adventures.
After 11 years of development, WayOut Adventures was now ready to realize the dream of its founder. To organize the Freeride World Tour in Greece.
Goals
- Advertising Greece as an alternative skiing destination
- Planning a security system for this inaccessible area
- Travel plan to and from the start and finish location
- Transportation of the equipment for the event
- Filming of the event
- Basecamp organization for a multi-night stay of the executive team
Challenges
After looking at the weather conditions on the winter of the event, we realized that snow cover was uncertain for the period of the event. The choice of the field was crucial, and through our perfect collaboration with the ski center of Parnassos we ended up on a slope well outside the limits of their field. This side of the mountain promised a spectacle, difficulty during its descent and snow cover, but challenges were also present.
This isolated location also had several risks that needed to be eliminated, while at the same time all the infrastructure for the race had to be created in this area. So we built Basecamp at the finish line to be close to the action and to be able to respond immediately to any need that may arise in our effort to make this race a reality.
We delivered
On the day of the race we found ourselves on a slope full of fresh snow, under a clear blue sky with the founder of WayOut adventures leading the 30 athletes to the starting point at 2200 meters.
The athletes who had been so eagerly calling us to inquire about the participation forms, were now next to us enjoying this unique location, rewarding us with their presence and their smiles. The event was a success, and our reward is the establishment of the Freeride World Tour in the Greek mountains.
